Leaders from across Europe’s publishing industries have been challenged to “reinvent” the book at Canon’s Future Book Forum held last week (2-4 November).
The annual event held in Munich gave publishers and printers a rare opportunity to discuss the future of the publishing industry together.
Over 250 publishers, production companies and print houses took part in interactive workshops and roundtables over the two days to help realise the challenge and develop a new format built from an original manuscript of 50 letters to the world’s CEOs, provided by international business management publisher, Thinkers50. The new format, entitled ‘Letters to the Future’ will be developed from the two-day event by Canon and moderator, Peter Fisk, and launched at the Thinkers50 European Business Forum in Odense, Denmark in May.
Of those attending from the UK, Andy Vosper, Deputy CEO of TJ International, said of his first visit to the Future Book Forum: “This has been a fabulous networking event that I’ve personally got a lot from. I’ve loved the idea of having so many people altogether from the manufacturers, publishers and printers in the same close-knit arena.”
Meanwhile, Marianne Bushell, Global Procurement Director of RELX Group, added: “I’ve come away armed with a lot of information that is going to really help me in my role. What’s different about Canon’s forum is the interactivity – you split into groups for discussions, come back with a lot of ideas that can then be shared with the audience together. I was impressed.”
