Canon celebrates four years of partnership with the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF), delivering high quality‑ printed editions of its Printing Outlook report. This longstanding collaboration reaches a new chapter as the BPIF prepares to unveil a refreshed brand identity – bringing a modern, confident and data ‑driven visual framework to one of the UK print industry’s most authoritative quarterly publications.
In 2025, the UK print industry generated £14bn in turnover, employed 91,000 people across 6,700 companies, and has continued to deliver a positive trade balance, into 2026. The UK is also the 5th largest producer of printed products globally and 2nd in Europe, reinforcing the sector’s continued relevance and resilience. The partnership with the BPIF reinforces Canon’s commitment to the UK print sector.
High-quality print meets data-led industry insight
In the last four years Canon has produced over 7,000 printed reports for the BPIF, approximately 65,000 SRA3 sheets, at its Customer Experience Centre in Birmingham using its market leading imagePRESS technology and sustainable Top Colour Zero media – engineered to reduce environmental impact. Earlier editions were printed on the imagePRESS C10010, while the most recent reports have been produced on the flagship V1350, renowned for its outstanding consistency, high productivity and exceptional image quality. This commitment to quality and responsible production ensures members nationwide receive a high calibre publication that reflects the strength, heritage and professionalism of the sector it serves.
As the leading trade association for British print, the BPIF is dedicated to supporting its members and the wider industry. It promotes progression, invites innovation and encourages empowerment across every area of the print landscape. Its wide range of benefits and services is shaped around the needs of the UK print industry, offering specialist business support, expert guidance and practical solutions to help members navigate an ever‑changing operating environment. The organisation also prioritises exploration and insight, engaging actively in sector research and using its extensive network of industry professionals to ensure UK print receives the accurate representation and strong voice it deserves.
BPIF’s new brand identity brings a modern, insight driven aesthetic to the Printing Outlook report, featuring refreshed colour palettes, redeveloped graphs, clearer layouts, and improved data navigation. The updated design aims to support better understanding of market trends while aligning visually with the federation’s forward-looking mission.
Canon helps deliver trusted print industry insight
Canon’s technology plays a central role in helping the BPIF communicate these insights effectively. By ensuring that each edition of Printing Outlook is delivered as a high-quality, professionally produced printed report, Canon enables the federation to showcase its data, analysis and industry leadership in a format that members trust and value.
The Printing Outlook report has a history going over 42 years. In January 1984 it reported on an industry dealing with excess capacity, seasonal fluctuations in trade, shortening order books, a squeeze on margins, a move to lower levels of stockholding, and a concern over the damaging effect of potential strike action in the UK economy. More recently reports have covered an industry dealing with the aftermath of a global pandemic, a cost crisis, supply constraints, wildly fluctuating confidence levels, and a global environment that continues to create new challenges. But it’s also shown an industry that continues to invest, increase productivity, strive for better efficiency, and deliver for its clients in the most creative ways.
Duncan Smith, Country Director, Production at Canon UK & Ireland, said: “Our partnership with the BPIF represents a shared commitment to elevating the value and visibility of print in the UK. For four years, the Printing Outlook report has been produced on Canon’s imagePRESS technology, ensuring exceptional quality, consistency and professionalism. The BPIF’s refreshed branding brings new energy to the publication, and we’re proud our technology is helping deliver this evolution.”
Kyle Jardine, BPIF Economist, and author of the Printing Outlook report said: “Canon and BPIF Printing Outlook partnership now enters its fifth year with increased vigour and excitement about the future of the industry, a new determination about the importance of championing research on our dynamic industry, and encouragement that the growing use of data will inform decisions and help the printing and printed packaging sectors develop further as a modern, progressive and thriving industry.”
“Canon has been an invaluable production partner for Printing Outlook over the past four years. Its print expertise ensures our research is presented to the highest standard – something our members greatly value. As we launch our refreshed brand identity, Canon’s commitment to excellence continues to help us communicate sector insights clearly, confidently and effectively.”
