Digital Plus has taken another step in its sustainability journey by working with PVC-free Kavalan for the first time in a recent high-profile museum exhibition.
The project is taking place at the Thackeray Medical Museum in Leeds, where Digital Plus printed and installed large-scale wall graphics for a thematic blood exhibition. The decision to install the graphics in single pieces made the installation particularly striking. The seamless finish elevated the visual integrity of the display, reinforcing the premium standards expected in a museum environment.
Kavalan PVC-free Gecko
Digital Plus used Kavalan Gecko for the wallcoverings. This paste-the-wall grey-backed textile is available in widths of up to 5m. PVC-free and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approved, it is compatible with UV LED and Latex inks, and the perfect material for high-end photo reproduction.
The graphics complement a newly commissioned work by York-based artist Gemma Wood. Branching out across the gallery space, Vessel explores the themes of connection through blood and vein-like structures, tracking the intimate ties that can be produced through blood transfusion.
David Brisk, Sales Director at Digital Plus says, “We’ve done multiple jobs at the museum, and are big fans of one-piece wall coverings. We chose Kavalan for this job because of its excellent on-site finishing properties. It offers superior quality without any fraying issues that we’ve experienced with other materials. We hand-trim the material on three sides to achieve a perfect fit without the small frays, which would be unacceptable in high-end heritage or corporate environments. It’s got a softer aesthetic too, which works much better with the space than a more corporate vinyl look.”
