ISA-UK powered by BSGA, the trade association for the sign, graphics and visual communications industry, has announced today that it is postponing the 2020 ISA-UK Sign & Print Awards, scheduled for 25th November, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have been closely following Government updates regarding Covid-19 and, based on the current uncertainty, do not believe it is appropriate to continue planning the 2020 ISA-UK Sign & Print Awards,” says Robert Lambie, President of ISA-UK. “Our awards were designed to celebrate a great year in our industry; showcasing amazing work and giving people the opportunity to come together to have a fantastic time. But due to this unprecedented crisis, instead of thinking about submitting work to an awards scheme, business owners are, quite rightly, more concerned about staying afloat and keeping their staff in jobs.”
The ISA-UK Sign & Print award winners were due to be announced at an evening ceremony in Manchester, with more than 400 people expected to attend the festivities. Entries were due to open in June.
“It would seem insensitive of us to promote our awards scheme when many colleagues and friends in the sector are worried about, and grieving for, loved ones affected by Covid-19", continues Mr Lambie. “Out of respect for those in the sign and print industry who are struggling, we’re postponing the entire 2020 ISA-UK Sign & Print Awards - not just the gala event.
“We will decide on a 2021 date once we have a clearer view from the Government and World Health Organisation of how and when the UK can begin to return to some semblance of normality,” says Mr Lambie. “As well as those entering the awards having a good reason to celebrate and show off their talents, our aim is to provide a superb opportunity for sponsors to get involved. We have consulted with our existing sponsors and, by re-arranging for next year, we are confident they will help us deliver an event worthy of this industry.”
The Association announced earlier this month that it has frozen membership renewals for paid-up members due to renew between 1st March and 31st May. “We wanted to try and relieve just a little of the financial pressure that some members are currently facing,” says David Catanach, Director of ISA-UK. “Taking the decision to put our awards on hold will allow us to extend our membership freeze and provide tangible support to ISA-UK members during these challenging times.”
