FESPA Wrap Stars to Take Home Fantastic Prize Haul

The winners of the live FESPA Wrap Cup vehicle wrapping competition at FESPA 2010 (Messe Munich, 22-26 June 2010) will be showered with some fantastic prizes, courtesy of the Platinum event sponsor Avery Dennison, gold sponsor and print provider Mutoh, and other sponsors Digital Designware, Geiger Cars, Mimaki, Rob Ivers, Royal Sovereign, Ude, Cadlink, Eurosystems and DPS.

The top prize will be a Mutoh Rockhopper 3 Extreme wide format printing system offered by the Belgian wide format printer manufacturer, with a value of nearly €18000.  Second prize will be a Royal Sovereign laminator RSC-1400H, including auto feeder and rewinder with a value of approximately € 5500.  The third prize winner will take home a Mimaki vinyl cutter worth € 3500, while the fourth prize supplied by Avery Dennison is an Apple iPad worth Euros 800.

All the vehicle prints used by the contestants during the different contest rounds will be produced on a Mutoh Blizzard series Eco printer.  The printer incorporates Mutoh’s award-winning Intelligent Interweaving technology and is ideally suited for the production of vehicle wrap prints.

Entries are now open at www.fespa-wrap-cup.com for vehicle wrappers wanting to test their skills in competition.  Registration costs Euros 200.00, but all participants will take home a prize package worth at least Euros 2000.

The winners of the Sign & Digital UK 2010 visitor competition are…

At this year’s Sign & Digital UK, in conjunction with the competition sponsor; Hybrid Services Ltd, the visitor prize of two VIP tickets to Old Trafford to watch a top flight game was won by two visitors who were drawn at random from those that registered online and attended the show.

The Sign & Digital UK team felt that following the interest shown in the 2009 visitor competition, where the winners won VIP tickets to the British Grand Prix, it was important to do something of high value for the 2010 show – the prizes provided by Hybrid were just the ticket.

Each winner has won two tickets to see a football game at Old Trafford during the 2010/2011 season, including all the added extras of VIP hospitality, food & drink, parking and over night accommodation. So congratulations go to the two winners; David Austin from Hobs Reprographics, London and Justin Tidmarsh from Fast Signs, Coventry.

David Austin said “The show was really good this year with lots on offer. I came this year specifically to look at new kit with the intent on making a purchasing decision. This objective has been met and I will certainly be returning next year. On top of that to win two tickets to Old Trafford to see a top flight game on the back of the show is just fantastic.”

Justin comments “I found the Sign and Digital UK show to be really useful this year where my questions regarding my ink supply were answered. On top of that when doing a general tour of the show I found some new product lines that were really interesting and that we will certainly be looking to actively market. Of course winning tickets for Old Trafford has just rounded it all off.”

Xaar delivers guidance and guides at FESPA 2010

GMG to present solutions for large-format printing at FESPA 2010

GMG, developer and supplier of high-end color management and proofing solutions, will be presenting software solutions for large-format printing at the exhibition booths of its technology partners HP (Hall B2, 120), Mimaki (Hall B2, 270) and Roland (Hall B2, 340) during FESPA 2010.

The latest software solutions from GMG enable businesses involved in large-format printing to simply and efficiently meet the growing quality demands of their customers. GMG will present the extensive functions of the new GMG SmartProfiler software application, which printers can use to create their own color profiles and printer calibrations for large-format printing systems. This significantly improves not only a company's production reliability and productivity, but also the color quality of the products.

GMG SmartProfiler is an additional option for GMG ColorServer, the central color management solution. Thanks to perfect execution of all necessary color conversions, GMG ColorServer ensures maximum color accuracy, repeatability, and consistent color results on any printing system. The result is colors that match those of print media produced by conventional methods, such as offset printing, as well as an identical color impression on multiple large-format printers of the same or a similar type.

At the HP booth, visitors to the exhibition will be able to see the GMG ColorServer/SmartProfiler color management solutions in action for creating profiles and calibrating HP Scitex large-format printers, for example.

At the Mimaki booth, GMG will be showing how color-accurate packaging proofs and packaging mockups can be produced in top quality. The combination of GMG ColorServer/GMG SmartProfiler color management software and the UJF-706 UV inkjet printers from Mimaki permits digital proofing on original substrates, as well as the production of absolutely color-accurate packaging mockups. White and varnish are supported in this context. The GMG/Mimaki solution is suitable for virtually any substrate.

The GMG solution for the UJF-3042 A3 flatbed printer from Mimaki with UV-curing inks will also be on display for the first time.

GMG ColorServer and SmartProfiler are likewise available for all large-format printers from Roland. In particular, the joint solution in conjunction with the Roland VersaUV LEC-330 printer will be presented at the Roland exhibition booth during this year's FESPA. Users can expect maximum color accuracy, reproducibility, and color consistency in such special packaging applications as the production of color-accurate mock-ups from original substrates, as well as proofing applications for the packaging market. Among other things, the output material can be printed with spot varnishing and white ink, as well as cut and scored.

Océ hails Ipex a great success story

Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, has hailed Ipex a resounding success with numerous new deals signed on the stand and more interest from customers and prospects than in the last two years.

As well as gathering to witness Océ’s technology in action in Hall 12 of the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, United Kingdom, between May 18 - 25, crowds were entertained by a series ‘industry affairs’ discussions on Océ TV, hosted by broadcaster Katy Haswell. Interviews were held with key stakeholders ranging from industry leaders, customers, journalists and analysts, as well as experts from Océ. Other successes for Océ included winning a European Digital Press Award (best production cut-sheet monochrome printer) for the Oce VarioPrint 6320 Ultra and launching on its stand a Managers’ Toolkit 40-page book for the British Print Industries Federation. Océ also announced that it is looking to extend its unique offering to the market where customers enjoy benefits from the printing world’s first Carbon Positive Plus+ initiative. Making a positive step beyond carbon neutrality, through strategic partner Shining Earth, Océ offsets 200% of the operational CO2 for its flagship product, the Océ VarioPrint 6250.

Tony Chard, Managing Director of UK-based MPG Books, said: “The reason we chose Océ is because it is the clear market leader, has the highest quality and most productive systems for digital book printing, as well as the best total cost of ownership. Added to that, we will have up to a 40% reduction in our total electricity costs due to the environmental benefits that include substantially lower temperature levels for the systems.”

FESPA ‘Blueprint’ Maps Out Factors for a Bright Future

FESPA has published its FESPA Global Summit Blueprint, a white-paper style summary report of the outcomes of its recent Global Summit event in Miami, Florida.

The report is authored by FESPA sales and marketing director Marcus Timson, with inputs from Summit participants Tim Greene of InfoTrends, industry consultant and editor Sophie Matthews-Paul, and Wide Format Imaging editor Denise Gustavson.   Timson and his co-authors summarise the key themes and issues covered by the FESPA Global Summit.  The content is taken from the presentations and panel discussions, and from interactive breakout groups involving more than 100 delegates who participated in the event.

Marcus Timson explains:   “For the first time, the Miami Global Summit connected innovative print entrepreneurs from several continents to share their ideas, challenges and visions.  It was a stimulating and thought-provoking event to be involved in, and we all felt that colleagues who could not be there in person would benefit from being able to absorb these distilled thoughts and observations.”

Under the headings ‘Change’, ‘Leadership’ and  ‘Innovation’, the report outlines some of the ideas, agreements, models and behaviours deemed necessary for a successful, innovative, print oriented business of the future.  The 11-page Blueprint is available for download from the FESPA web site at www.fespa.com or via FESPA’s Wide Network.

The Blueprint is the first such report to be produced following a FESPA Summit event, although FESPA intends to develop a Blueprint from all future Global Summits.

Timson concludes:  “Reinvestment is at the heart of FESPA’s organisational philosophy. In every region where FESPA has an active event programme, we’re committed to using a proportion of event revenues to create knowledge-sharing or educational initiatives that help members of the wide format community build successful and future-proof businesses. The development and distribution of this FESPA Blueprint is the first FESPA reinvestment project to directly benefit North American printers. We hope it’s the first of many positive initiatives as we develop FESPA’s event portfolio for the Americas.”
