Zünd UK Ltd has expanded its technology showroom to feature the latest digital cutting innovations, while a new Sales Technician has also been appointed to present comprehensive demonstrations.

The Zünd S3 L1600 installed by KartDavid is one of several size options in the S3 portfolio, offering a bed size of 1,800mm x 1,630mm.

High-end laser cutting of plastics at the Fakuma 2017

Fast, precise and flexible – these are the demands that are made on modern production plants. The north German company eurolaser GmbH has been setting itself these challenges for more than 20 years and ranks among the specialists for CO2 laser systems for the cutting and engraving of non-metals. Advantages of lasers for acrylic sheets and plastic films

Acrylic processing seems tailor-made for innovative laser technology and it offers many advantages compared to traditional procedures. For example, conventional processing procedures, such as sawing or routing, create waste in terms of acrylic shavings, entail additional expense with polishing or flame polishing, and there are definite limitations when filigree inner contours should be cut. By contrast, contact free laser processing ‘melts’ the acrylic. Consequently, there are clear and smooth contours without the need of further post-processing. The area affected by the heat is so small that the structure of the material is retained.

A similarly large market is the cutting of plastic films. Especially in the automotive industry, machinery construction and front panels for kitchen appliances, the production of front panels and membrane switches will be optimised by means of high-quality laser cutting systems. Besides, the contactless processing through extremely narrow laser beam enables also precise and small radius.

New opportunities for automation: Labelling, printing and marking

For the first time, the system complements Label and Ink Printer Module allow the user to apply labels directly to the laser-cut parts and to print them individually as required. Besides, the direct print onto the material used is also possible. In this way, the cut single parts will be marked for further process stages, e.g. with a bar code or a serial number, and thus, optimised for traceability.

If you need only simple markings, you can also make use of the reasonable Ink Marker Module. It operates more quickly than the usual pencils and, you can also cut contactless materials, such as e.g. polyester, polypropylene, acrylic and almost all natural fabrics.
