The Mimaki UJV55-320 delivers vibrant, high-impact prints for banners, wall coverings, canvases, and scaffold graphics up to 3.2m wide.

Jamprint Design & Printing has invested in a Mimaki UJV55-320 UV LED roll-to-roll printerfrom CMYUK. This marks the first installation of a super-wide printer (3.2m wide) in-house, and will unlock further opportunities in textile, SEG, and single piece wallcovering opportunities. The new platform strengthens Jamprint’s large-format production hub in Calne, Wiltshire, headed up by Sales and Operations Director, Adam Moss. It complements the company’s Swindon site that houses litho, digital small format, and finishing processes.

Family run business

Founded in 2008 by Jason Miles, Jamprint has grown as a family-run business, with nephew Jake Fortune (now Managing Director) joining in 2010. Kieran Fortune, Jake’s younger brother joined the team in 2016 to head-up the newly acquired Stroud-based specialist business, Majuba, which expanded the company’s digital capabilities.

“Diversifying beyond litho and digital has been a strategic goal for us, and client demand for 3.2-metre-wide banners and textile applications made the decision straightforward.  The Mimaki UJV55-320 gives us the width, quality, and reliability to bring work in-house, increasing turnover in a different part of the business, and gives our customers faster lead times,” says Jake.

Mimaki difference

The Mimaki UJV55-320 delivers high impact output for super-wide banners, tension frame graphics, single piece wall coverings, canvases, and construction/scaffold banners, all sectors where Jamprint is seeing strong growth. Projects already lined up include textile displays, large canvases and repeat programmes for live sports branding.

Its ease of use, quality, and value for money were decisive factors in Jamprint’s purchasing decision. “We looked at alternatives but the Mimaki’s balance of image quality and total cost of ownership stood out. It’s a genuine workhorse, simple to operate, and fantastic value,” says Jake.

The Mimaki integrates seamlessly with Jamprint’s established production workflow. Its addition allows the team to split or balance jobs, maintaining high throughput during peaks and ensuring urgent work is prioritised. “If our 1.6m printer is busy, we can load three jobs onto the Mimaki and keep everything moving. It improves production, and, ultimately turnover,” he adds.

New finishing capabilities

To support its expanded soft signage capability, Jamprint has added industrial sewing in-house for hems and keder, enabling complete SEG and banner finishing under one roof. “A lot of textile work requires sewn finishing, so we invested there too. It means we can control quality end-to-end,” says Jake.

Jamprint previously outsourced super-wide and certain textile jobs due to width constraints. “Initially we expect to save at least £3,000 per month that would otherwise go to outsourcing, and that’s before you count the gains in speed control and client satisfaction.

“Having the Mimaki is really going to help. It’s another string to our bow and it should put us into a really good space as we head on into the back end of the year. It’s really going to make a difference,” he adds.

Jake also anticipates that the Mimaki will pay for itself very quickly based on the company’s flourishing order book.

Sustainability

In addition to banners and SEG, single piece wallpaper is a fast-growing area for the company. The ability to produce seamless one-piece wall coverings minimises joins, speeds installation, and elevates the final overall aesthetic, advantages that benefit both commercial interiors and branded environments.

With a growing roster of projects specified on PVC-free textiles and high-performance alternatives, Jamprint is set-up to print materials that align with brand sustainability goals, whilst meeting durability and colour quality demands. “Where customers specify PVC-free or particular eco-credentials, we accommodate that.  Our super-wide capability just means we can say yes to more of those briefs,” says Jake.

CMYUK service

Jake has been impressed with CMYUK’s customer service. “The team, and in particular Chris Martin, Sales Director, has always delivered on their promises. Whatever they’ve told us they were going to do, they’ve done,” he says.

Future confidence

Installing the Mimaki has helped to strengthen the business both now and for the future. “The Mimaki investment broadens what our customers can achieve with us.  We can produce more, faster and at larger scale without sending work elsewhere. It’s great news for clients who want one trusted partner to deliver everything from premium litho to super wide textile graphics,” Jake concludes.
