KIP Displays Wide-Format Colour Printer at SGIA

KIP Color KC80

At the SGIA tradeshow, KIP displayed the KIP Color 80; a new 36 inch wide colour addition to its line of wide-format document production systems - designed to provide the power of productivity to generate creative, full colour output while maintaining peak efficiency.

The KIP Color 80 system produces lightfast, UV-proof prints which do not fade or exhibit colour deterioration from exposure to light. Users value the fast, economical production of colourful banners, posters and signs. Oversized graphics displayed in hallways or placed in windows attract attention while large, full colour business-style graphics deliver the right message at meetings, sales presentations, and legal briefs. KIP Color 80 prints are ideal for most applications because of their ability to deliver high resolution image quality at production print speeds with low operational costs.

New Durst Rho 500R UV inkjet printer wins DPIA’s “Product of the Year”

New Durst Rho 500R DPIA POTY

New Durst Rho 500R UV inkjet printer wins DPIA’s “Product of the Year”

“The best grand-format roll imager”

For the second year running, a production roll to roll Durst Rho UV inkjet printer has received one of the most coveted awards that the imaging industry has to offer.  The Rho 500R superwide UV inkjet printer, which made its North American debut at last week’s SGIA trade show in New Orleans, was chosen as the Digital Printing & Imaging Association’s “Product of the Year” in the grand-format roll to roll UV inkjet printer category.

Last year the DPIA’s “Product of the Year” award was presented to Durst for its Rho 320R UV inkjet roll to roll printer during the SGIA trade show in Atlanta.  On both occasions Christopher Howard, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Durst U.S., was on hand to receive the awards during brief ceremonies at SGIA.

“All of us at Durst are extremely pleased by the recognition that these honours convey,” Howard said.  “Durst’s tradition of excellence, in technology and in meeting the operational requirements of our customers, is clearly demonstrated by the fact that our products are judged to be world class year after year.  It’s very gratifying to see the industry taking notice, and we want to thank SGIA and all the imaging experts who took part in the evaluation.”

Based on a rigorous evaluation process of printer output overseen by a respected independent quality testing organisation, and judged on the SGIA show floor by a team of digital imaging experts commissioned by DPIA, the Rho 500R was judged best in the grand-format UV curable class against all of its major competitors.  Entrants were required to submit a test print produced on the nominated printer.  The image, designed by SGIA, was created specifically to challenge the capabilities of the output device, according to SGIA.

“The Product of the Year award winners highlight the best technologies, consumables and software from the digital imaging community,” said Jeff Burton, SGIA’s Digital Printing Analyst.
The Rho 500R offers an unrivalled combination of productivity and quality of print. This is made possible by the latest generation of Durst’s own Quadro® 30D Array printhead technology, which doubles the number of nozzles per colour to 2,048 – the highest in its class. It prints six colours at 600 dpi resolution on the widest variety of roll media at speeds up to 400m² without compromising quality. As well as printing display media such as vinyl banners and mesh for facade cladding up to a width of 5m, it will also print three 1.6m rolls together, for example, of textile for banners or self-adhesive polyester film for backlit application. The built-in sensors and the specially designed media transport system allow for problem-free unattended printing. Furthermore, the extremely low production costs and low ink consumption, thanks to its intelligent dither technology, make the Rho 500R one of the most economical printers ever.

The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association is the one organisation whose sole purpose is to provide graphic imaging professionals with the technical know-how, expert advice and knowledge they need to operate more profitable businesses.

Epson launches Stylus Pro 7700 and 9700 printers

Epson Stylus Pro 7700

Epson has launched two new additions to its Stylus Pro inkjet printer range, the SP7700 and SP9700. At 24in and 44in respectively, the Epson Stylus Pro 7700 and 9700 are packed with the latest Epson technologies that add precision, reliability and productivity to a wide range of professional printing applications.

Epson technology is renowned for delivering fast, efficient printing. The Epson Stylus Pro 7700 and 9700 are designed to produce faster output without compromising print quality, by using advanced compression and decompression technologies that speed up data during printing. The printers feature the latest Epson MicroPiezo TFP print head, which is optimised to work with a five colour ink set, a subset of Epson UltraChrome HDR Ink incorporating cyan, vivid magenta, yellow, photo black and matte black. The print head delivers perfectly accurate dots with virtually no misting or satellites. Perfect smoothness and detail is down to Epson Variable-Size Droplet technology (VSDT), which can produce droplets as small as 3.5 picolitres.

The Epson Stylus Pro 7700 and 9700 produce prints with even more impact thanks to the Vivid Magenta Technology. Vivid Magenta gives a wider colour gamut, which in turn provides enhanced colour accuracy. This is particularly noticeable for blues, magentas, reds and oranges, giving prints a more natural and life-like appearance. The ink set also includes both Matte and Photo black inks, which maximises quality on any given media. The printer automatically selects the optimum black ink to match the media, which adds convenience and productivity to the printing process and reduces cost.

Prints from the Epson Stylus Pro 7700 and 9700 are highly light-fast and will retain their colour and quality for longer, wherever they are used. The specifically formatted pigment inks are water-resistant and have excellent colour stability, for long-lasting prints which are dry and stable very shortly after emerging from the printer.

There is a range of features of the Epson Stylus Pro 7700 and 9700 which makes the printing process as easy and as flexible as possible. Fast network connection, clear control and straightforward operation and maintenance are built in. The high-visibility 320x200 pixel control panel screen shows all aspects of the printer from ink levels and quick cleaning to paper cutting and job cancellation. Barcode printing is a way to keep track of media during changes and can eliminate misprints due to lack of media. The new spindle-less flange system makes changing roll paper easier and takes up less space. It handles a wide variety media types, sizes and tensions and the new rotary paper cutter is more durable, cuts smoothly and cleanly in seconds, so there is no need for manual cutting.

Intelligent software helps users get the most out of the Epson Stylus Pro 7700 and 9700 by keeping track of all aspects of printing, streamlining the workflow and enhancing creativity. The new intuitive printer driver is easy to use and can be customised for different levels of information and print and media settings. These printers include the drivers to support the AutoCad HDI interface for high speed and precision accuracy.

Epson's Layout Manager, a new function within the printer driver, enables the easy importation and layout of data created in various applications. Functions such as Move, Enlarge/Reduce, Rotate and Fit-to-Roll simplify workflow and reduce waste.
