Seiko Epson Corporation and Epson X Investment Corporation have recently made an additional investment in Gosan Tech Co., Ltd. through a joint fund, EP-GB L.P. Gosan Tech is a South Korean startup with inkjet technology that can be used in a variety of industrial fields.
Founded in 2015, Gosan Tech has developed and sells inkjet systems for fabricating organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays. Through its work in this field, it has developed an ink supply system, pressure control technology, and simulation technology that enable it to achieve excellent ink droplet uniformity and precision. Gosan Tech is expanding its business in three areas: information technology, including OLED display fabrication and direct parts marking; the environment, with inkjet systems for perovskite solar cells (PSCs); and bio-medical, including drug deposition, tissue engineering, and diagnostic.
PSCs have been the subject of particularly intensive research and development and have seen significant improvements in power conversion efficiency in recent years. They are lightweight, thin, and flexible. These characteristics, together with the potential for lower manufacturing costs when production technologies such as inkjet printing are used, have accelerated efforts toward commercialisation. PSCs are seen as a next-generation renewable energy source that could complement or eventually serve as an alternative to conventional silicon-based solar cells. Gosan Tech develops and commercialises PSC modules and inkjet-based manufacturing systems for PSC production. By leveraging inkjet technology, the company enables not only high-quality thin-film formation but also precise control of film thickness, materials, and design patterns, contributing to enhanced power generation performance, improved design flexibility, and more efficient use of materials.
Expanding industrial inkjet through partnership
In April 2025, Epson invested in Gosan Techn as a partner in Epson’s printhead sales business. Since then, Epson, in tandem with its sales and service subsidiary in South Korea, Epson Korea Co., Ltd., has supported the company’s growth by supplying reliable and high-precision printheads optimised for industrial applications. During this period, Gosan Tech has achieved steady business growth such as improving the power conversion efficiency of its PSC modules, expanding production capacity for inkjet manufacturing systems used to produce those modules, and receiving more volume-production orders for the systems from new customers. Through this additional investment, Epson will work with Gosan Tech to expand the market for inkjet-based manufacturing systems for PSC modules.
Under its long-term corporate vision, ENGINEERED FUTURE 2035, Epson aims to make the sustainable growth of industry and society a reality by advancing a wide range of solutions powered by its inkjet technology, enhancing productivity and reliability across industries, and enabling the real-world implementation of new value. Epson is also expanding the application of its inkjet technology in emerging fields such as electronics, biotechnology, and PSCs, where new market needs are arising. By combining its strengths with Gosan Tech’s innovative technologies, Epson will seek to create synergies and maximise the potential of inkjet technology in these growing application areas, thereby accelerating the real-world implementation of new technologies.
