HP
HP’s history in wide-format inkjet printing dates back to the launch of the HP DesignJet 600 in 1991, the world’s first large-format inkjet plotter. The early DesignJet range was aimed heavily at architecture, engineering and technical drawing rather than exhibition graphics, but it helped establish inkjet as a credible technology for wide media.
Colour followed quickly. HP’s 1994 technical journal describes the DesignJet 650C as its first large-format colour inkjet plotter, opening applications that monochrome plotters could not support.
The Postscript 755CM, launched in 1995, was a breakthrough large-format colour inkjet printer introduced for graphic artists, that featured a Postscript level 2 RIP built-in.
In 1998 Hewlett-Packard launched the DesignJet 2500 and 3500 printers (HP’s first pigmented inkjet wide-format colour printers), for many this was the first production inkjet that genuinely allowed photo quality printing at sensible speeds for point of sale graphics.
Fast forward to 2009 when HP launched the Latex L25500 printer. Whilst the true ‘first Latex’, the HP DesignJet L65500 was an industrial printer, the HP DesignJet L25500 was a smaller, accessible workhorse for standard sign shops. The L25500 was HP’s first mainstream Latex printer, and HP’s first true solution for providing genuinely outdoor durable output.
Today, HP Latex Technology offers eco-friendly printing with water-based inks, in a number of formats, sizes and productivity levels, and services a huge number of applications. Here’s our snapshot A-Z view of just a few of the things you can print with HP Latex technology.
