Canon has secured two Red Dot Design Awards 2026, recognising the design excellence of its varioPRINT iX1700 and Colorado XL series.

Canon announces that two Canon Group commercial printers – the varioPRINT iX1700 inkjet digital press and Colorado XL-series large-format hybrid printers have both received a prestigious Red Dot Design Award Product Design 2026 – building on the previous iF Design Award wins in Germany.

The varioPRINT iX1700, developed by Canon Inc., is a high-speed sheetfed inkjet digital press capable of handling up to 170 A4-size and 73 B3-size prints per minute. By combining a high-definition printhead with an ink circulation mechanism that supports high-density water based polymer pigment ink, the system reduces downtime while delivering print quality matching that of offset printing. Navigation lights indicate the location of issues, enabling operators to intuitively identify required tasks without referring to the user interface. The flat top surface can also be used as an ad hoc workspace. A large window enables real-time monitoring of internal operations.

Colorado XL7 design puts operators in control

Developed by Canon Production Printing, the “Colorado XL7 roll-to-roll” and “Colorado XL7 hybrid” are large-format UV inkjet printers capable of handling both flexible and rigid media – including banners, film, foam board, acrylic material, and more – at equal speeds. The design streamlines operator interaction through clearly structured touchpoints. Other notable features include a touchscreen that can be positioned at either the input or output end for ultimate versatility, integrated LED guidance that provides immediate visual feedback to ensure accurate media placement and alignment, and a transparent top cover that allows continuous visibility of the printing process.
